Message just completed my first ever timing belt job thanks to the great write-up on ttzd, did the whole 120K w/ pulleys, studs, tensioner, water pump and seals/springs. took me about 30 hours spread out over 2 weeks during my free time. actually spent almost 4 hours agonizing over the front crank seal. considering all the time i sacrificed, not to mention all the cussing/mental stress i will pay someone to do it next time unless i find my self with 2 weeks' free time to waste.
here are some pics:

things coming apart...

more progress, seems like my crank seal had a slow leak..

getting things cleaned up...

dam this front crank seal...

new things getting put back on...

now that its done i have a few tips:

- make a note of how tense the accessory belts are before removing them
- no need to turn the crank back 10 degrees from TDC during intial teardown
- a wire brush is the best tool for scraping off the old gaskets
- the belt wrap technique works great
- the cams probably wont move when you take the belt off, just put the old belt around them and slowly let them come to rest (clockwise)
- a small metal punch is handy for removing the cam seals
- get a drill ready for the crank seal if it doesnt come out with the punch method
- the plastic ramp for the crank seal is the schizzle! i used coke bottle plastic
- 1.5 inch pvc pipe works great for tapping in the seals
- use the FSM for putting the belt back on, count the teeth!
- use zip ties to hold the belt in place as u set it
- double nutting will remove the pulley studs, use thread locker when putting in the new studs
- auto-tensioner setup is best covered in the FSM as well
- it takes exactly 9 quarts to refill the coolant system, i did 3 quarts antifreeze and 6 quarts distilled water
- clean everything!
- take your time and pay attention to detail
- be patient!
